Mid-Year Impact Day: The Walker Group's Commitment to Community Service

Coming Together to Give Back

On Friday, July 31, 2026, our entire team set out for a day of giving back across our community, partnering with five local organizations that make a difference every day. Follow along below to see how our team made an impact for our summer team day.

House of Heroes Connecticut

Our first highlight is House of Heroes Connecticut, an incredible organization dedicated to helping veterans by providing home repairs and improvements at no cost to those who have sacrificed for our country.

Thank you to House of Heroes Connecticut for welcoming us as a first time Project Partner and inviting our team to be part of such a meaningful project. It was an honor to help local Vietnam Veteran and Purple Heart recipient, James Albrycht of Bristol.

We're incredibly proud of our team for rolling up their sleeves, and getting dirty with home improvement and backyard projects for the Albrychts. They tackled many projects in just a few hours. Thank you to the amazing team at House of Heroes for making our first project together so memorable. We look forward to working together again soon.

Farmington Land Trust

Our second volunteer highlight takes us to Farmington Land Trust (FLT). Founded in 1971, FLT is dedicated to protecting and caring for more than 300 acres of open space throughout Farmington, preserving these natural places for future generations, wildlife, and our community.

Our team spent the morning at the Wilcox-Bushley Homestead and Environmental Education Center, helping reorganize the indoor classroom and learning spaces so everything is well-stocked, organized, and ready for future educational programs and visitors. Every organized space helps create a better experience for volunteers, educators, and visitors while supporting FLT's ongoing conservation and education efforts.

A heartfelt thank you to the Farmington Land Trust team for welcoming us with such hospitality and making us feel like part of the mission. We were honored to spend the day giving back alongside an organization so deeply committed to conservation, education, and community stewardship.

Healing Meals

Our third volunteer highlight takes us to Healing Meals Community Project, an inspiring organization that believes food is medicine and that a caring community can make all the difference.

Healing Meals prepares and delivers nourishing, organic meals to individuals and families facing health crises while empowering teen volunteers to grow, cook, package, and deliver each meal with compassion and care. Every meal is more than just food. It's a reminder that no one has to face life's challenges alone.

Our team spent the morning with the dedicated volunteers at Healing Meals, making pesto and scratch made soups, and packaging meals that will bring comfort and support to families facing illness. It was an incredible opportunity to contribute to an organization whose mission brings people together through kindness, service, and compassion.

A heartfelt thank you to the Healing Meals Community Project team for welcoming us and allowing us to be part of your mission. Your dedication to serving others is truly inspiring, and we were honored to play a small part in that mission.

H.O.P.E. Partners of Farmington

Our fourth volunteer highlight takes us to H.O.P.E. Partners of Farmington, an organization that has been supporting seniors and members of the community for more than 60 years.

Founded in 1965, H.O.P.E. Partners helps residents remain safe, independent, and connected through a variety of programs and services. One of those services is their medical equipment lending program, which is open to anyone in Connecticut, regardless of age. Community members can borrow walkers, wheelchairs, shower chairs, canes, bedrails, and other essential equipment for a small fee, helping make everyday life at home a little safer and easier.

Our team spent the morning helping clean out and organize the medical equipment shed, where donated equipment is stored and prepared for members of the community who need it. With so many different items coming in and going back out, having a clean, organized space helps H.O.P.E. continue providing this valuable resource to the people who rely on it.

A big thank you to the H.O.P.E. Partners of Farmington team for welcoming our volunteers and giving us the opportunity to lend a hand. We were happy to spend the morning helping an organization that has been caring for and connecting our community for generations.

Community Renewal Team

Our fifth and final volunteer highlight takes us to the Community Renewal Team, an organization that has been helping individuals, families, and communities address the challenges they face in building a successful future.

Founded in 1963, CRT has partnered with local elected officials, providers, funders, businesses and the community to address challenges like hunger, homelessness, unemployment and poverty. In 2025, CRT served 20,353 households and 40,351 individuals throughout our core service area in Central Connecticut (80% of the households served by CRT’s programs and services are between zero and 200% of the federal poverty limit; 23% are single parent households). Our core service area covers 40 cities and towns, but our work connects us to people in 106 towns throughout the state of Connecticut.

Our team came together to organize and prepare food for individuals and families facing food insecurity in our community. Through teamwork and a shared commitment to giving back, we helped make a meaningful difference for those in need.

A big thank you to the Community Renewal Team for welcoming our volunteers and allowing us to make a difference within our community. We were happy to spend the morning helping an organization that has been paramount in providing services and quality programs.

What an impact our team made in four hours, in four towns, for five organizations that will ripple out to countless individuals in the community. We can't wait to do it again next year!
